Description of requirement

THE FMAB PROGRAM IS A NON-DEVELOPMENTAL ITEM THAT HAS BEEN IDENTIFIED BY THE UNITED STATES MARINE CORPS (USMC) AS AN URGENT NEED FOR A LIGHTWEIGHT, RAPIDLY EMPLACE-ABLE (LESS THAN 10 MINUTES), MANUALLY-ASSEMBLED FOOTBRIDGE WITHOUT INTERMEDIATE SUPPORT ABLE TO SPAN A DRY GAP NOT LESS THAN 20 METERS. THE FMAB WITH INTERMEDIATE FLOAT AND ANCHORING DEVICES SHALL SPAN A WET GAP NOT LESS THAN 30 METERS. FOOTBRIDGE MUST BE PACKAGED IN A SET OF INTERCHANGEABLE COMPONENTS. INDIVIDUAL FOOTBRIDGE COMPONENTS SHALL NOT EXCEED 74.4KGS (164LBS). THE NATURE OF THE ENVIRONMENT FOR CURRENTLY DEPLOYED FORCES IN AFGHANISTAN AND IRAQ REQUIRES DISMOUNTED TROOPS TO NEGOTIATE EXTENSIVE IRRIGATION CANALS AND AGRICULTURAL DRAINAGE SYSTEMS IN ORDER TO MAINTAIN MOBILITY. THE FMAB IS ESSENTIAL TO DISMOUNTED TROOPS MAINTAIN FREEDOM OF MANEUVER
