Description of requirement

THE TARGET OBJECTIVE FOR PHASE III IS TO DEVELOP AND DEMONSTRATE A 300 CM^2 ACTIVE AREA APWR FUEL CELL, BUILT ACCORDING TO CERTAIN PROPRIETARY METHODS, PROCESSES AND CONSTRUCTION TECHNIQUES, CONCEIVED BY THE CONTRACTOR DURING THE COURSE OF SBIR PHASE I AND PHASE II APWR FUEL CELL SYSTEM EFFORTS, AS DESCRIBED IN THE CONTRACTOR S PHASE III PROPOSAL, TO EFFECT THE APWR FUNCTIONALITY IN A MASS-PRODUCED PRECISION CELL CONSTRUCTION. THE CONTRACTOR WILL CONSTRUCT A SINGLE REPEATABLE UNIT CELL, THEN TWO (2) 4 CELL SHORT STACK TEST ARTICLES, AND EVENTUALLY A FULL SIZE (NOMINALLY 2 -3 KWE) STACK TEST ARTICLE OF APPROXIMATELY 38 - 42 CELLS. THE TEST ARTICLES ARE NOT PROTOTYPICAL OF FLIGHT HARDWARE, BUT ARE FULLY PROTOTYPICAL FROM A MANUFACTURING STANDPOINT. THE END PRODUCT WILL BE A MANUFACTURING PROTOTYPE OF AN APWR HYDROGEN OXYGEN FUEL CELL STACK THAT CAN BE PRODUCED AS FLIGHT HARDWARE AT REASONABLE COST TO NASA, TO SUPPORT FUTURE EXPLORATION MISSIONS.
