Description of requirement
OTHER FUNCTIONS. THE PRIMARY OBJECTIVE OF THE RESOLVE MISSION IS TO VERIFY THE PRESENCE OF WATER AND OTHER VOLATILES ON THE LUNAR SURFACE BY DIRECT, GROUND-TRUTH MEASUREMENTS AND TO SERVE AS A PRECURSOR FOR FUTURE PROSPECTING MISSIONS TO A VARIETY OF LOCATIONS AROUND THE SOLAR SYSTEM. THE RESOLVE MISSION SHALL FOCUS ON EXPLORING LUNAR REGOLITH IN AND/OR AROUND PERMANENTLY SHADOWED POLAR-REGIONS OF THE MOON. THE OBJECTIVE HAS BEEN FURTHER REFINED TO INCLUDE:? DETERMINATION OF THE FORM, CONCENTRATION, AND SPATIAL DISTRIBUTION OF HYDROGEN AND OTHER VOLATILES INSIDE AND/OR OUTSIDE OF SHADOWED LUNAR POLAR REGIONS TO A DEPTH OF AT LEAST 1 M.? DETERMINATION OF BULK PROPERTIES OF LUNAR MATERIAL INSIDE AND OUTSIDE OF SHADOWED LUNAR POLAR REGIONS.? DEMONSTRATION OF REGOLITH PROSPECTING, EXTRACTION, AND PROCESSING OPERATIONS IN THE LUNAR ENVIRONMENT.? DEMONSTRATION OF OXYGEN (WATER) EXTRACTION FROM REGOLITH VIA HYDROGEN REDUCTION IN THE LUNAR ENVIRONMENT. THIS PROPOSAL BUILDS ON THE EVOLUTION OF VIRTUAL MACHINE LANGUAGE FOR SEQUENCING AND IS TO DEVELOP, IMPLEMENT AND OPTIMIZE VML LANGUAGE FOR THE RESOLVE FIELD DEMONSTRATION HARDWARE PRIOR TO THE FIELD TEST DEMO (HILO, HI) SCHEDULED FOR EARLY JULY. THE VIRTUAL MACHINE LANGUAGE SOFTWARE SUITE TO BE USED CONSISTS OF A PACKAGE OF THREE ELEMENTS, THE VML COMPILER, OFF-LINE VM (OLVM), AND VML FLIGHT SOFTWARE. THE SOFTWARE PROVIDES ENHANCED CAPABILITIES FOR SEQUENCING ONBOARD THE SPACECRAFT IN THE FLIGHT SOFTWARE, A SIMULATOR FOR RUNNING SEQUENCES ON THE GROUND TO FIND ERRORS AND PROVIDE VALIDATION, AND A COMPILER FOR GENERATING SEQUENCES FROM THE INPUT SOURCE. THIS SOFTWARE WAS DEVELOPED BY BLUE SUN ENTERPRISES.
