Prototype Lock System

This prototype system is a specialized in its integration of several complex mechanical systems. This will be the first time the entire system will be assembled. Ricarl Design (cage code: 1JZR9) is the only company familiar with each individual system such as the Internal Locking Device System, Thermal Relocker System and Multipoint Lock System. This is a one-time prototype procurement. The design of this prototype has been in the works for over 10 years with total project cost of about $5M. Ricarl Design (cage code: 1JZR9) has been the key designer for the past 5 years performing as a subcontractor. The prime contractor did not have any direct contribution to the design of the lock. Under the FAR 6.302-1, this is a logical follow-on for the continued development of highly specialized equipment and the award to any other source would result in a substantial duplication of cost to the Government that is not expected to be recovered through competition. The estimated re-work cost associated with labor to educate a contractor and increased fabrication time is $13k. Delays in this fabrication will cause a delay in magazine construction.
