Description

PROJECT DESCRIPTION: The proposed scope of this project includes reconstruction of the pavement within a parking lot servicing the boat ramp in the North Point Recreation Area near Pickstown, South Dakota. The project will address deteriorated pavement and sub-base for the 98,000 square-foot parking lot on the east side of the North Bay just upstream of the Fort Randall dam on the Missouri River. The project will provide a new pavement surface for the parking area while maintaining the operational qualities of this popular summer boat launch area. SCOPE OF THE WORK: The project will consist of removal of excavating the existing parking lot’s asphalt and base to a depth of 9.5-inches and placement of a 3.5-in asphalt pavement on 6-inches of aggregate base. Subexcavation work includes removing poor subgrade soils in the area. Parking lot slopes will match existing conditions with minor adjustments made to create an American Disabilities Act compliant handicap parking stall. A concrete pad for a dumpster and signing and striping are also included in the project. The parking lot will be closed during construction activities. The route then proceeds southeasterly for approximately ¾ of a mile and ascends approximately 300 feet vertically to the Buck Hill Overlook parking area. The route is located entirely within Theodore Roosevelt NP. There is one (1) base schedule and no options. SCOPE OF THE WORK: The project includes three major components; 1) Approximately ¾ mile of roadway rehabilitation, 2) Approximately 1,000 linear feet of deep subexcavation to address an existing landslide, and 3) Reconstructing the existing Buck Hill Overlook parking lot. PROJECT NUMBER: UT NP ARCH 100(2) PROJECT NAME: Bridges on Delicate Arch Road PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Delicate Arch Road (DAR) is within Arches National Park (Park) and provides access to Delicate Arch. DAR is a functional class 1 roadway (Principal Park Road) and is heavily traveled by visitors and often congested during periods with moderate-to-high levels of visitation. DAR crosses three low-gradient ephemeral washes (Salt Valley Wash, Salt Wash, and Winter Camp Wash) near their confluence in the Salt Wash Basin downstream of Wolfe Ranch. Culverts installed during original road construction in the mid-1990s and during subsequent upgrades are inadequate to allow unobstructed stream flow and sediment transport downstream. This existing condition produces flooding and sediment deposition, which creates unsafe conditions for visitors, triggers road closures, potentially strands Park visitors, diminishes visitor experience of the Park, and generates high operational costs associated with traffic management, visitor safety, and cleanup operations. SCOPE OF THE WORK: This project will be designated as Reconstruction (4R) with one segment of restoration (3R), and will design and construct 100’ span concrete bridges at the Salt Valley Wash, Salt Wash, and Winter Camp Wash. The DA roadway profile at each Wash will be raised to accommodate a 10-year design frequency and allow a medium-sized excavator to access each wash. The DA will be realigned at the Salt Valley wash, moving the roadway and new bridge location to the north of the existing roadway and drainage crossing. The remaining 3R sections of the roadway will receive full depth reclamation (FDR) or removal of pavement, including all parking areas, followed by a 4-inch pavement overlay.
